Felix Armfield, 51, of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Felix Armfield was born on August 27, 1962 in Tarboro to the late Betty Perkins and Jasper Armfield Jr. His grandparents were the late Jasper "Shack" and Christine Armfield. He was an active member of First Shiloh Baptist Church in Buffalo, N.Y. and was member of Holly Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Belvoir.
Felix graduated from North Pitt High School, in Bethel, in 1980, and from North Carolina Central University, where he received his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in History. He earned his Ph.D. in History from Michigan State University
. Dr. Armfield joined the History Department of Western Illinois University as an Assistant Professor in 1995. He was employed as a professor for the past 14 years at Buffalo State College. His most recent publication was Eugene Kinckle Jones: The National Urban League and Black Social Work, 1910-1940.
Felix Armfield is survived by his father, Jasper Armfield Jr. and wife, Shirley; grandmother, Mrs. Christine Armfield; sisters, Kimberly Armfield, and Sandy McKenny and husband, Ricky; brother, Jeffrey Armfield and wife, Venetia; godmother, Shirley Hunter; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are by Rountree Family Mortuary, Greenville. Funeral service will be held at Holly Hill F.W.B. Church, Greenville, on Saturday, May 10, 2014, with a noon viewing and 1 p.m. service. Burial will follow at Dancey Memorial Cemetery, Princeville.
