Rupert "Jay" Boswell, 85, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Red Oak Christian Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Estates.
Jay, a native of Wilson County, worked for Southern States, formally FCX, from 1950 to 1999. He was an active member of Red Oak Christian Church where he was an elder and a member of the Missions team. He enjoyed being a mentor to the children at Falkland Elementary School for six years. Playing golf and working in his flower garden were two of his favorite hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Cleveland and Mary Geneva Scott Boswell; brothers, Alan and Cleveland Boswell; and sisters, Geraldine Narron and Marie Faulk.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Sasser Boswell; sons, Steve Boswell and wife, Jackie, of Ayden, Jevan Boswell and friend, Lisa Kelly, of Stokes, and Grant Boswell and wife, Candy, of Grifton; grandsons, Paul Boswell and friend, Laurin McNeill, of Wilmington, Matt Boswell and wife, Danielle, of Lansdale, Pa., Dillon Boswell of Winterville, and Maury Boswell of Grifton; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Asher Boswell; brothers, Grey Boswell of Cary and Caney Boswell of Holly Springs; and a sister, Daphne Smith of Wilson.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.
