Marjorie Nicholson Obituary

Marjorie Sugg Nicholson of Chapel Hill completed her time on earth Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010 at N.C. Memorial Hospital. She was 89.
Mrs. Nicholson was born June 9, 1921, in Greenville, the daughter of Henry Clay Sugg and Caroline Dixon Sugg. She attended Greensboro College and later graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. Subsequently, she taught public school in Pitt County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnell Gilliam Nicholson of Tarboro in 1984. Her brothers, Marvin Sugg of Greenville, Archie Sugg of Winston-Salem; and sister, Elizabeth Sugg Batchelor of Jacksonville, also predeceased her.
Mrs. Nicholson is survived by four children, Caroline Brown and husband Tom Brown, MD of Greensboro, Don Nicholson Jr. and wife, Anne, of Chapel Hill, Tim Nicholson and wife, Karen, of Mebane, and Mike Nicholson and wife, Tina, of Chapel Hill. She leaves ten grandchildren, Hannah Bruckel Veltri, Matt Bruckel, Nick Brown, Miriam Brown, Carrie Brown, Cora Willow, Katie Nicholson, Molly Nicholson, Donnie Nicholson, and Eric Nicholson. She leaves nine great-grandchildren.
During her active life, she was devoted both to her family and to her community wherever she lived. In Chapel Hill, she volunteered with the local chapter of Meals on Wheels and was a member of The Chapel of the Cross (Episcopal), serving on the Altar Guild. She was a lifelong student of French history and literature and read her French Bible regularly. She was a fine pianist and in high school, played the piano on the radio in Eastern North Carolina. However, what she enjoyed most of all, was spending time with family and friends, who will miss her greatly.
A small graveside memorial service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be made to The Chapel of the Cross, 304 East Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC 27514 and designated as "In Memory of Marjorie S. Nicholson for Global Missions/Haiti Relief."

Sorry about the loss of your mother. She was a lovely lady.
Your dad was a very close personal friend of mine and we worked together on many lawsuits including his partners. They were wonderful folks and we will miss them.

Momsie, you are a little jewel. We had a lot of fun times together. I'll never forget our rides in the country, esp. to Maple View Ice Cream with your dog Rusty in tow. We also laughed together when six-footer me would greet petite you with "Fee Fi Fo Fum!" and you pretended to be so scared. I miss you but I know you're happy with the Lord. Love from your daughter-in-law,

Marjorie S. Nicholson RIP

Mom, what a precious pot of gold you are to us and what incredibly beautiful parents God has given us in you both, mom and dad. I'm so glad you are together again, home in our Heavenly Father's city. Thank you, thank you Jesus.
