CHARLOTTE - Mr. Mark Sheppard Brown Sr., 49, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, March 1, 2006. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carmel Baptist Church. Funeral service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Ross Rhodes and Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Weddington.
Mark was born July 15, 1956 in Greenville to Sondra Sheppard Brown and the late Henry Thomas Brown Jr. After graduating from J. H. Rose High School in Greenville NC in 1974 and North Carolina State University in 1978, he began a 25 year career as a Medical Sales Consultant. For the last 11 years he was employed with Rolane Diagnostics. He was a dedicated and active member of Carmel Baptist Church and a prior member of Calvary Church. Mark was a devoted husband and father who lived a Christ centered life. He and his wife Elizabeth were married March 24, 1994. He was blessed with the birth of his son Sheppard in 1996 and daughter Alexandra in 1999. Mark enjoyed participating with his daughter in Indian Y Guides, and in coaching his son's basketball and baseball teams.
In his life, Mark exemplified all that surrounds the word character. In parting, Mark leaves behind many who have been touched by the faith that he so freely shared. His unexpected departure leaves a great void for his family and many friends who loved him. Mark's commitment to his faith, family and friends was without equal. He set a standard of life priorities for others to follow.
In addition to his mother, Sondra S. Brown of Greenville, Mark is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 12 years, Elizabeth S. Brown of Charlotte; children, Mark Sheppard Brown, Jr. and Alexandra Elizabeth Brown of Charlotte; brother, Henry Thomas Brown III and his wife, Amy, of Raleigh; sister, Sondra Elizabeth Meyer of Greenville; aunts, Eleanor Cherry of Raleigh, Ruth Braddy of Greenville; uncle, Phillip Sheppard of Gastonia; and by a host of friends whose deep friendship meant so much to Mark.
The family asks that memorials in memory of Mark be made to either Carmel Baptist Church, For His Kingdom Fund, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road, Matthews NC 28105 or to Charlotte Christian School, Lighting the Way, 7301 Sardis Road, Charlotte NC 28270.
