Richard Graham Nahouse

CHINA GROVE - Rev. Richard Graham Nahouse, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday, August 31, 2018, at his home in China Grove. He is at Home with his Lord and Savior. He was a loving father, husband, brother, son, grandfather and host father to many exchange students.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 pm Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis. Rev. Dr. Jarrod Lanning, Pastor Joe Tallent, Pastor Ed Harper, Rev. Dr. Pierson Shaw and Rev. T.C. Plexico will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 5:45 pm Tuesday at the church.

Pastor Nahouse was born May 22, 1938 in Passaic, NJ. He was a son of the late Richard Arthur Nahouse and Ottie Robinson Nahouse.

Rev. Nahouse received his B.A. from the University of Richmond in 1959, in 1962 he received his B.D. from the Southeastern Baptist Seminary followed by his certification in 1964 from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He served on many committees with the ELCA North Carolina Synod. In 2002 he retired from Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis. Formerly, Pastor Nahouse had served at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, NC; Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Greenville, NC; Lutheran campus pastor at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and exchange pastor in Syke, Germany.

He also served as vice-pastor at various churches and helped establish Grace Lutheran Church in Little Washington, NC. In retirement, he served as interim pastor for several local Lutheran Churches throughout the area.

Pastor Nahouse is survived by his wife, Nancy Fritts Nahouse; a son, Graham R. Nahouse of Landis; two daughters, Elizabeth R. Nahouse and Mary K. Nahouse of China Grove; a granddaughter Brianna E. Sossoman; and extended family, Kirsten Grabe-Soetebier, Johannes Rascher, Lucy Dusing, Arne Wende and Henrike Lehnguth, all of Germany.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 108 West Rice Street, Landis, NC 28088, Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church Building Fund, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, China Grove, NC 28023 or to North Carolina Synod-ELCA, 1988 Lutheran Synod Drive, Salisbury, NC 28144.
