Thomas Ray Bland

RALEIGH - Mr. Thomas Ray Bland, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel by Pastor Worth Forbes. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be private.

Tom, a native of Washington, NC, spent his early life in Greenville where he was a graduate of Rose High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from ECU and served as President of the Kappa Alpha Order, later serving on various boards and councils as well as providing a scholarship fund in the School of Construction Management. He loved his ECU Pirates, holding season tickets every year and rarely missing a game.

Tom was a small business owner, creating and operating as President of Preservation Homes since 1998. He poured his love and creativity for beautiful arts and crafts style bungalow homes into this, building homes all around the triangle. He was just about to start a brand new neighborhood in Youngsville.

Tom loved beach music and his river cottage on the Pamlico River in Washington. But most of all, he was a devoted and loving father, doing anything and everything to support his children, no matter the cost or sacrifice. Everyone always said how much Tom loved his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, McRay Bland.

Surviving is his daughter, Katie B. Carlough and husband, Matt; his son, Spencer Bland; and their mother; Adele Jennette Gardner, grandchildren, Sutton and Parker Carlough, all of Raleigh; mother, Hazel Paul Bland; brother, Raleigh Bland and wife, Connie; and nephew, Webster Bland, all of Greenville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter, 2210 Millbrook Road, #109, Raleigh, NC 27604. (
