Viola Williams Wooten

FALKLAND - Mother Viola Williams Wooten passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 26, 2018. She was born in Falkland, NC on the 26th day of February 1919 to Noah and Maude Dupree Williams. She had eight siblings: Jack Jones, Minnie Wilkes, Rubell Drake, Noah Williams, Clara Johnson, David Williams, McCoy Williams, and Ruby Johnson.

She married the late (1991) Edmond Allen Wooten in 1946, and was the beloved mother of two daughters, Fannie Wooten Harris and Esther Wooten Council. She was also the cherished grandmother of four: Ja-Fana Ghita Harris, Brandon Thomas Council, Brigitte Marie Council, and James Edmond Harris. She was 99 and 1/2 years old.

She received her education from Falkland area schools, and also attended the Henryton School of Practical Nursing in Henryton, Maryland. She was employed with the Pitt County School System for twenty years and retired in 1989.

Mother Wooten became a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Falkland, NC, at an early age and received Jesus Christ as her personal savior and Lord. She performed dutifully and faithfully for over 85 years in various church positions and especially loved to work with the children of the church. She extended this love for children by opening her heart and home to over 100 children as a foster mother, which included three sets of twins.

Viola Williams Wooten loved the Lord, her family, her church, and her friends, and was a treasure to all who knew her.

She will truly be missed and forever live in our hearts.
