William "Billy" Prentice West

GREENVILLE - Mr. William "Billy" Prentice West, 73, died Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 PM at the First Christian Church in Greenville with Rev. Mike Goff, Rev. Joyce Day, and Antonio Jones officiating the service. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Son of the late Earsky and Sarah Modlin West, Mr. West was born and raised in Dunn, NC. However, he had been a native of Pitt County since 1950. After retiring from DSM and Union Carbide, he worked with East Carolina Chrysler Dodge Jeep Lincoln Mercury. His love for cars was evident. A member of the Greenville Corvette Club, he enjoyed going to car shows, often taking his own Corvette when he could.

Mr. West was also very passionate about sports, coaching the local Little League and Babe Ruth teams. When he wasn't coaching, he was playing on his church league softball team at First Christian Church, where he had been a dedicated member. Always pulling for the Steelers and New York Yankees, Billy had a great love for everything outdoors. He was especially fond of animals as well, wanting to help them in any way that he could.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Judy Bennett West; daughter, Gina Tripp and husband Tony, of Grifton; son, Tim West and wife Robin, of Greenville; sisters, Patricia West Fitz Patrick of Richmond, Virginia, and Jenny West Dent, and husband Harold, of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew Tripp and wife, Casey, Jessica Creel and husband, Jordan and India Silverthorne and husband, Stephen; great grandchildren, Jaxson Tripp and Brayden Silverthorne; special brothers-in-law, Bert Bennett and wife, Renee, of Tarboro and Sheron Bennett and wife Muriel of Greenville.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to those who cared for him during his illness at Vidant Cancer Center and Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice; especially his nurse, Kricket Oakley.
