Zachery "Zach" Alexander Russian, 20, passed away at 11:53 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Zach was born July 16, 1993 in Danville, Ill. to devoted parents John and Sara Russian. He spent the first six years of his life in Westville, Ill. with his immediate family, other relatives, and very close friends. He attended Saint Mary's Catholic School for pre-kindergarten education and Judith Giacoma Elementary School for kindergarten and first grade. The family relocated to Greenville in 1999. Zach attended Wahl-Coates Elementary, E.B. Aycock and Hope Middle Schools. This enabled Zach to make many friends, many of whom stayed very close to him. He attended D.H. Conley High School where he began to shed his shyness and open up to even more people. He met many friends through his classes; he particularly enjoyed technical classes that enabled him to build things. He graduated from high school in the spring of 2011, and went on to take courses at Pitt Community College.
After graduating from High School, Zach worked for several Greenville area companies including Brook Valley Country Club, Ironwood Country Club, Logan's Roadhouse, and was currently employed at Sheetz. He developed many friendships with his co-workers and truly enjoyed working beside each of them.
Above all else, Zach lived to serve others– especially those needing help. He enjoyed many hobbies with friends and family, including bowling, Ping-Pong, pool, and loved going to movies with family and friends. He was passionate about animals and never passed up an opportunity to care for the animals of others. He enjoyed spending time with family and helping family and friends on building projects. He looked forward to the many family vacations.
He is survived by parents, John and Sara Russian and sister, Rachel Russian, all of the home; grandmother, Mary M. Schlosser of Williamsport, Ind.; five uncles, six aunts, 18 cousins; the Gabehart family of Illinois, with whom he shared a family bond; and many close friends in the Greenville area.
Zachery was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Betty Russian and Harold Schlosser.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
