Mr. Travis O. Hardee, 62, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Hardee, a native of Pitt County, was a lifelong resident of Greenville. He served for six years in the North Carolina National Guard and was employed with Burroughs-Wellcome Pharmaceuticals, retiring in 1999. Mr. Hardee was a recipient of a heart transplant in 2009 at Duke University Hospital. He was involved in volunteer work with Carolina Donor, NC Donate Life and was a DMV Ambassador for people to be aware of organ donation. He received the award in 2012 for volunteer of the year from North Carolina Donate Life. He was a member of Parker's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl E. and Clara Jane Cherry Hardee.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ellen Roebuck Hardee; daughters, Tracey H. Dickerson and husband, Kent, of Jamesville and Jamie H. Smith and husband, Gavin, of Black Jack; grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan and Kolbie Dickerson, and Joshua and Grey Smith; sister, Lois Jane H. Stocks and husband, Claudie, of Greenville; and brother, Karl Wayne Hardee - Francis Cates Hardee.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
