WINTERVILLE - Charles Ray "Charlie" Beddard, 57, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 after a short illness. A memorial service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Beddard, a Pitt County native, was born to the late Mamie Ruth and Woodrow Wilson Beddard. A graduate of D. H. Conley High School, he was employed with Daughtridge Gas and Oil Company.
Mr. Beddard was fondly known as "Charlie" and will be kindly remembered as a loving and selfless person. He was a giving person of his time and resources when there was a need. He enjoyed cooking for others and was often called upon to cook a pig as he was quite experienced. He was a longtime volunteer firefighter with the Winterville Fire Department and was an avid gardener.
A loving son, husband, father and grandfather, Charlie will be sorely missed by the many that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Margaret "Pearl" Beddard; son, Bryant Beddard and wife, Katie, of Greenville; daughter, Melisa B. Piner and husband, Rex, of Winterville; stepson, Adam Baker and wife, Jenny; stepdaughter, Alison Respass and husband, Billy, all of Washington, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and mother in-law, Margaret Whitehurst, of Washington, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National FFA Foundation, 6060 FFA Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
