Mrs. Alta Tyson Shoe, 88, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Shoe, a native of Pitt County, lived her early life in the Belvoir community. She received an AB Degree in primary education from East Carolina University, and had made her home in Greenville since 1948. For a number of years, she taught at Chicod School and worked as a substitute teacher in Pitt County for 40 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shoe was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Shoe; and a son, Robert Joseph "Joe" Shoe.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda S. James, of Greenville; son, David Shoe and wife, Linda, of Greenville; grandchildren, Heather Roebuck and husband, Chris, of Winterville and Robert James III and wife, Sara, of Greenville; great-grandchildren, McKenna and Haven Roebuck, and Haley James; a brother, Ralph Tyson and wife, Barbara; and a sister, Jean Camp, all of Greenville.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care given to their mom by the staff of Red Oak Assisted Living and the staff at the Vidant Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.
