COLUMBIA, S.C. - Jane Matthis Smith passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Providence Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Keenan Chapel, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Ky.

Born in Louisville, Ky., she was a longtime resident of Columbia, where she was the owner of The Friendly Yarn Shop. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where she was involved with the Trinity Bazaar and Daughters of the Holy Cross. More recently, she volunteered her time at Shandon Presbyterian Church and Town Theatre.
Surviving are her sons, Brian G. Smith and wife, Melissa, of Oronoco, Minn. and Elliott G. Smith and wife, Alison, of Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren, Duncan Smith, Sarah Smith, Isabella Smith; sister, Parma Matthis Howard of Greenville, N.C.; and niece, Penne Sandbeck of North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daughters of the Holy Cross or Shandon Presbyterian Church.
