GRIFTON - At the age of 86, Mrs. Frances Williams Carraway passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, to join the Lord and her husband, Ernest "Brownie" Carraway. The Greene County native was born May 25, 1928, and was swept off her feet by Brownie, who she married Nov. 6, 1948. 13 years later, the two purchased a farm outside of Grifton, where they started a family with one daughter and three sons.
An advocate in her community, Frances was a member of the Grifton Rural Fire Board Association, serving as secretary previously; Grifton Ladies Auxiliary member and prior president; former Sunday school teacher and a pianist at Riverside Christian Church.
After the loss of her husband in March, 2014, Frances will be reunited with Brownie; her parents, Dan and Verna Mae Williams; brothers, Daniel and Billy Williams; and sister, Shirley Jones, in heaven.
A devoted family woman, Frances leaves behind her daughter, Brenda Wright; sons, Ernest Edwin Carraway and wife, Patsy, Randy Martin Carraway and wife, Faye, and Roger Dale Carraway and wife, Patty; four grandchildren, Travis Wright and wife, Karla, Kyle Carraway and wife, Barrett, Crystal Emerick and husband, Danny, and Phillip Carraway and wife, Tracey; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Ethan; and sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Marguerite Dixon and Rachel Hudson.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. The family will welcome friends Friday at 6-8 p.m. as well as receiving guests at the residence. The funeral service will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. and be officiated by the Rev. John Brick. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Sincere appreciation is given to close friends and family including caregivers, Debra Campbell and Fannie Brown for the help and aid they have given.
