Mr. George E. Martin, 85, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, 2100 E. 5th St., Greenville.
George Elliott Martin grew up in Jackson and spent his working career of 37 1/2 years with Westinghouse Corporation in their Baltimore Division. He was an Electronics engineer whose early work was the design of electronic circuits for radar systems, and was highlighted by a number of patent disclosures with some resulting in US Patents and publication of several technical papers. His final position was as manager of Systems Engineering for three company Divisions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvah H. Sr. and Evelyn Elliott Martin; and brothers, Alvah H. Martin, Jr. and Archie F. Martin.
More important to him, however, he was the husband and soul mate of Ruth; father of Dottie and David; father-in-law of Jon; grandfather of Jennifer and Michael; brother of Margaret; an uncle to a number of nieces and nephews; and a good friend to many. He had many and varied interests, but best of all, he was a tried and true fisherman.
We are thankful for being part of his life, and celebrate his continuing memory.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Four Seasons Room at Cypress Glen.
