AYDEN - Mr. Lloyd Edward Adams, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Adams Family Cemetery located behind the family home.

Mr. Adams was a native of Pitt County and a lifelong resident of the Chicod community, where he attended Chicod School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was self-employed as a building contractor for many years. He attended Gorham Swamp P.F.W.B. Church and was an avid singer in several gospel groups, including the Gospelettes and the Down Home Boys.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Valdere Adams; daughters, Teresa and Sharon Adams; and sisters, Melva Ree Jones, Bessie Lee Adams, and Juanita Kirkman.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Brannon Adams; sons, Galin. E. Adams and wife, Claudia, of Venevia, Italy, Gordon M. Adams and fiancee, Randi Smith, of the home, and Billy Crawford and wife, Reneé, of Winterville; daughter, Angela Haddock and husband, Leonard, of Ayden; 9 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
