Lucille Cates Obituary

Lucille Godard Cates

WILLIAMSTON - Lucille Godard Cates, 83 of 200 E5 Santree Drive, Williamston died December 2, 2015. She was born on January 17, 1932 to the late Neal and Jennie Godard of Martin County. She married Howard Bowen on March 23, 1951. Later she married H.D. Cates on March 15, 1968. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2008. She was predeceased by her daughter, Cindy Bowen Williams, brothers Leroy Godard, Norman Godard, Nennie Godard and Robert Godard. Lucille lived away from Williamston for forty-two years, having lived in New Bern, Wilmington, and Raleigh. She returned back to Williamston in the summer of 1999. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Williamston. She was a member of Martin General Hospital Senior Circle, worked as a volunteer at Martin General Hospital and she did Meals on Wheels for the Department of Aging. Mrs. Cates was a strong person and even wrote her own obituary.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy B. Critcher and husband James of Williamston, sister Dolly Vopelak and brother; Ernest Godard of Williamston, granddaughters Laura Broda and husband Matt of Wake Forest, Amy Sarkisian and husband Grant of Raleigh, and four great-grandchildren, Emmett and Meryl Broda and Celeste and Bennett Sarkisian. Dalton Barr was a Godson that called her Mema.

A Memorial service will be held at 4:30 P.M. on December 11, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with a reception/visitation immediately following the services.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church 114 East Church St. Williamston, NC. 27892.
