Phillip A. Whitehurst, Sr., 81, passed away on Thursday, September 08, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 pm in the Greenville Seventh day Adventist Church. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Whitehurst, a native of Pitt County, was son of the late James Henry and Maude Conway Whitehurst. He worked as a painter for a number of years and later began traveling and selling goods in Flea Markets. He sold goods in Flea Markets from Florida to Virginia for over 30 years. He was a long time member of the Greenville Seventh day Adventist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Whitehurst was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Allen Whitehurst, Jr.; grandson, Ricky Whitehurst; brothers, Wesley and Lomar Whitehurst; sisters, Doris Wells, Evelyn Pugh and Ester Higden; sisters-in-law, Hazel Whitehurst and Nellie Whitehurst; and brother-in-law, Earl Pugh.

He is survived by his: children, Phyllis J. Joyner and husband, Alan, of Winterville, Timothy W. Whitehurst and wife, Zina, of Greenville, Polly A. Tuttle and husband, David, of Graham, NC, and Terri W. Jones and husband, Randy, of Winterville; grandchildren, Phillip "Boone" A. Whitehurst, III, Linda Powell, Jennifer Joyner, Cody Jones, Brittany Joyner, Alexis Jones, Deanna Whitehurst, Miranda Whitehurst, Lance Brady, Michael and Kathy; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Ben Whitehurst and wife, Edith Parker; sister, Frances Baggett and husband, Neal; and a brother-in-law, Charlie Wells.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 7 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
