TORRINGTON >> Barbara (Buzinski) Capitanio, of Torrington, beloved wife of Robert E. Capitanio, passed peacefully on Feb. 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She had succumbed after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer`s Disease. Born on April 18, 1933, in Torrington, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Helen (Skargensky) Buzinski and was a lifetime resident of the town.
Barbara graduated as Valedictorian of Torrington High School class of 1950 and was a member of the orchestra and band and played saxophone at the Bushnell with the High School All State band. She worked at the Torrington Co. office for two and a half years and then devoted her time to raising her five children. Barbara graduated summa cum laude from Central CT State University. She taught 5th grade at East School for 20 years and even after retiring, she took great pride in being referred to as a teacher. She was a past member of the Torrington Woman`s Club, Retired Teachers Association and a faithful parishioner of St. Mary`s Church where she had taught CYO.
Barbara`s other loves were the family cottage in Rhode Island, skiing, many family vacations and trips with her husband, along with spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and great supporter of her children and grandchildren, she was very visible at their many activities and sporting events. Barbara was always available to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking, her home was always open to family and friends. Although her inner light will be sorely missed by all who knew her, it will surely live on in all whose lives she has touched.
In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, she leaves behind her son Robert and wife Lynn with grandchildren, Kristen, Jacob and Bethany; daughter Cheryl and husband Rob Silliman with grandchildren Robert, Benjamin, Rebecca and Samuel of Portland, son Richard and partner Carl Pallini of San Diego, California; son Gary with grandchildren Jordan, Nathan, and Alexandra and wife Lynnette; daughter Amy and husband Jason Bresson with grandchildren J. Phillip and Nathaniel; and sister Judith and husband Richard Suski of Glastonbury. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister Betty (Buzinski) Fabiaschi.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 11, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Mary`s Church, 85 Pulaski St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
