WINSTED >> Charles Dmytriw, Jr., passed away on Saturday, Oct.19, 2013. Born Nov. 2, 1919 in Perth Amboy, NJ; the son of the late Vasil and Anna (Spach) Dmytriw. He grew up in Far Rockaway, NY, with five brothers and sisters. He was drafted in the Army in 1942 and during World War II he assigned to the 25th Division, Tropic Lightning, and saw action at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands Campaign, New Georgia Campaign, Luzon Phillipines, and the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal with the Good Conduct Medal and battle ribbons. He moved to Winsted in June of 1955. He was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He is survived by his son, Charles W. Dmytriw, III, of Winchester Center; his daughter, Ruth Audia of FL; and his granddaughter, Layla Audia. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter Dmytriw, Katherine Hahn, Mary Dmytriw, Anne Dmytriw and Olga Dmytriw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, Winsted at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Winchester Center Cemetery with full Military Honors.
