CASAGNI, ERNEST Ernest Casagni, 103, formerly of Forest Street, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Cherry Brook Healthcare Center, Canton. He was the beloved husband of the late Vera (Dalimonte) Casagni. Mr. Casagni was born in Winchester, on January 15, 1911, son of the late Francesco and Giustina (Butteri) Casagni, and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a retired employee of the Torrington Co., retiring with thirty-two years service. Mr. Casagni was a member of the Torrington Co. Foreman’s Club, Quarter Century Club, and had also been a member of the Eagle’s Club. Ernest had been an active member with the Barkhamsted Seniors, was an avid coin collector, and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include two sons; John J. Casagni and his wife Melody of Canton, Frank E. Casagni of Sudbury, Mass., and his former wife Diane, of Titusville, Florida, a sister, Lee Meade, of Torrington, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
