NEW HARTFORD / BAKERVILLE >> Francis Norman Vickers, beloved husband of the late Mary (Maskaitis) Vickers for 61 years, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was born Aug. 28, 1927 in Waterbury; son of the late Francis and Dorothy (Fleming) Vickers. Francis was a longtime resident of New Hartford.
He served in the United States Navy
during World War II
. He had a Partnership with his brother, Fred in Vickers Brothers General Building Contractors. They built over 100 homes in the New Hartford area. He also worked as a set-up man for New Departure in Bristol for 38 years. Frank was a licensed pilot, enjoyed horse racing and was an avid Yankees fan.
He leaves four children, Francis Vickers of Medford, Massachusetts, Thomas Vickers of Williamsville, Vermont, Mark Vickers of Cromwell and Judy Schultz and husband Dan of Bristol; two grandchildren, Timothy Schultz and Lisa Vickers; two brothers, Fred Vickers of Winsted and John Vickers of Torrington; and a sister, Dorothy Lanko of Winsted.
Friends may call on Friday, April 5, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 6, at Immaculate Conception Church, New Hartford at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bristol with full Military Honors.
