James Joseph Brady, Sr., passed away on Jan. 10, 2013. He was the loving husband of Mary (Baldwin) Brady for 63 years. Born Nov. 22, 1923 in Winsted, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Bossong) Brady. James graduated from The Gilbert School and Bentley School of Accounting. A sergeant in the United States Army
in the 99th Division, he served in England, France, Belgium and Germany during the Battle of the Bulge, Remagen Bridge, Rhineland and Ruhr Pocket, achieving the Bronze Star for valor. James was employed by Waring Products Division Dynamics Corp. for 36 years retiring in 1986 as the Director of Purchasing. He was active in the community as a Director of Junior Achievement and as Cubmaster of Pack 17, as well as Leader of Boy Scout Troop #17, earning the Silver Beaver and St. George Medal. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St. Joseph Church. He served on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, Parish Trustee and First Development Committee for St. Anthony School. He also was on the Board of Directors for Catholic Family Services and Winsted Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons and four daughters: James J. Brady, Jr. And wife Marion of New Jersey, Carol Gaylord of Winchester Center, Maureen Dilan and husband Edwin of Tolland, Kathleen Jones and husband Andrew of Winsted, Joseph E. Brady and wife Mary-Ann of Winsted, William W. Brady of Winsted, Elizabeth Garrison and husband David of Simsbury and Thomas F. Brady of Hamden. He also leaves 16 grandchildren: Matthew and Stephen Brady, Jonathan Gaylord and wife Amber, Kristen Faircloth and husband Nicholas, Kaitie Dilan, Allison, Brian and Stephanie Jones, Erin, James and Briana Brady, Michael, Kevin and Lauren McCann, and Lindsey and Christopher Garrison; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Zacary Gaylord and Alexandra Gallo-Plante. He is survived by his siblings: Henry Brady and wife Margaret of Pennsylvania, William Brady of Colorado, John Brady and wife Doris of Torrington and Magdalena Brady of Winsted. He was predeceased by two siblings, Elizabeth D'Onofrio and Edward Brady and a son-in-law, Russel Gaylord.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, Winsted, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in the spring at St. Joseph's Cemetery with full Military Honors. Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to: St. Joseph Church, St. Anthony School, or The Gilbert School.
