TOLLAND, Massachsuetts >> Josehine A. Kisiel Pustinger entered Heaven's Gates on Dec. 24, 2012, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Born Feb. 26, 1932 in Winsted to the late Catherine (Wolski) and John Kisiel. She was a fraternal twin, the youngest of 9 children.
As a teenager, she worked as an assembler at Waring Products in Winsted where, through the good-hearted meddling of her sisters, Kitty and Bernice, she met her husband-to-be, Richard (Dick) Pustinger. They married July 1, 1950 and resided in a little cottage they built behind his parents' house on Highland Lake. In 1960 they purchased Alderbrook Apple Farm in Tolland, Massachusetts, where they spent the next 52 years of their lives together. Josephine was an excellent homemaker and cook and she took great pride and pleasure in hosting annual Thanksgiving dinners at a table that could accommodate dozens of cousins. It goes without saying she made the best apple pie around…(ask Dick!) Her heart and her home were always open to relatives and friends, and everyone else who appeared on her doorstep...stray animals, runaway teens, Girl Scout Troops.. everyone was invited in and made to feel at home. She was a loving and generous Mother, Grandmother and Aunt who would drop everything at a moments notice in order to help whenever and wherever she was needed. She took in and cared for her mother, Catherine. She cared for Dick's Mother, Clara for years, bringing her to her appointments and grocery shopping every week. Later, she cared for her sister, Bernice, as well. When she was younger, she bowled and belonged to the Tolland craft club. She enjoyed Bingo and slot machines, scratch tickets and Lotto, and always searched for 4-leafed clovers. She watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and the same Soap Opera for 50 years! She loved eating out at Red Lobster and 99, and finding the best bargains- even if she had to drive an extra 20 miles to get them! She will be so greatly missed by us all.
Josephine leaves behind her adoring husband of 62 years, Richard Manning Pustinger. Her children: Melinda (Jeff) Casey of New Fairfield, and Richard J. (Dana) Pustinger of Otis, Massachusetts. Her grandchildren: Sheri (Cooke) Lovejoy, Shawn Casey, Krystal Casey, Ashlee Casey and Jeffrey Casey, and Bradley Pustinger. Her sister, Katherine (Kisiel) Burgess of Dallas, Texas, and her twin brother, Joseph P. Kisiel of Hartford, who will sing at her Mass. She was predeceased by four brothers, Edward J. Kisiel, Raymond E. Kisiel, Andrew N. Kisiel, and John J. Kisiel; and two sisters, Helen (Kisiel) Filipone, and Bernice (Kisiel) Cotto.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of The Lake Church, 224 Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick, Massachuseets, 01077 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. A life celebration gathering with food and drinks will follow at noon in the new Public Works Complex, 241 Granville Road (Route 57) Tolland, Massachusetts, 01034.
