Margaret J. Galya(1918 - 2013)

TORRINGTON – Margaret J. Galya, 94, of Jones St. died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Litchfield Woods Healthcare Center.
Miss Galya was born in Torrington on March 23, 1918, a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Bestercy) Galya and had been a lifelong Torrington resident. Margaret was a retired employee of General Time where she had worked for 25 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, Slovak Catholic Sokols, and Torrington Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and especially her home and family.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Betty Ann Killiany, John Krekoska, Joseph Krekoska, Therese Kornacki, Patricia Brown, Stephen Galya, Mary Ellen Long, a sister-in-law, Helen Galya and many grand nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceased by a brother, John Galya and three sisters, Mary Angelovich, Anna Krekoska, and Betty Galya.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Litchfield Woods for the wonderful care shown to Margaret during her stay.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington to Sacred Heart Church, 116 Grove St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
