Myrtle Thuillard(1918 - 2014)

THUILLARD, MYRTLE FULLER TORRINGTON—Myrtle Fuller Thuillard died at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 2, 1918, to Morris S. Fuller and Laura Cleaveland Fuller, she was the wife of the late Raymond J. Thuillard. Mrs. Thuillard graduated from Torrington High School in 1935 and Torrington Secretarial School in 1936. She was employed by James E. Mallette, tax collector, until her marriage in 1939 and was later employed as Office Manager of the present Foothills Visiting Nurse and Home Care agency in Winsted until her retirement in 1983. As a lifelong member of the United Congregational Church (originally the Torringford Congregational Church), Mrs. Thuillard had the distinction of being the only member to hold all four major elected offices of her time, as well as serving on innumerable committees. As Historian, she arranged many of the records in permanent form, some dating back to 1769. In November 2008 she was recognized as a “Beacon of the Church” for her dedication and faithful service. In her later years, she was chairman of the Torringford Cemetery Committee. For many years she was a member of the Toringford Community Fellowship. As a Grange member for over 70 years, she was active at both local and state levels. During her term as Juvenile Deputy of the Connecticut State Grange, she was one of three deputies who initiated plans for the first Grange camp, still known as Camp Berger, in Winchester, CT. An avid genealogist for many years, Mrs. Thuillard compiled and documented a comprehensive family history. She was a member of the Torrington Historical Society. Mrs. Thuillard is survived by five daughters: Joan Steeves and husband Roy of New Hartford, CT; Andrea Capell and husband William of New Hartford, CT; Susan Brodeur and husband John of Hartford, CT; Sharon Thuillard-Rohrs and husband David of South Deerfield, MA; and Anne Langton and husband Robert of Mansfield, MA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Alta Peck and Loris Geer. The family is grateful to Foothills Hospice and Elder Care staff for their compassion, guidance and support in Mrs. Thuillard’s final days.
