Ralph A. Landrette Jr.

LANDRETTE, RALPH A. Ralph A. Landrette, Jr. 82, of Torrington, CT, passed away Saturday, February 22nd at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Ralph was born in Southington, CT on August 10, 1931, a son of the late Rose and Ralph Landrette, Sr. He joined the Army at age 17 and spent 4 years in Munich, Germany, where he led the 30th Army Band and became a Staff Sergeant, playing the French Horn to entertain troops traveling from Germany, Holland, Switzerland, England and France. He had an extended stay following the start of the Korean War. Returning to the states he met the love of his life, Joan Bisciotti, in hairdressing school. He was employed by Penthouse Beauty Studios and was operations manager at Corvettes Salon in Hartford, overseeing 15 stylists. After entering the World Hairdressing Competition in NYC he was awarded 1st place for most creative, and opened his first hair salons, Plaza Hairstyles in Bristol and Plaza II in Farmington, Stardust Beauty Salon in Watertown, and in 1967, he and his wife Joan opened Foutainbleau Coiffures and eventually Foutainbleau II. His achievements included organizing the largest Bocci Tournament in the World held in the grand casino ballroom of Trump Casino Atlantic City, and he organized several other tournaments with up to 85 teams. He was responsible for patenting the first colored bocci balls. Even though he lost both of his legs at 70, he never stopped going and doing anything he could to help anyone. Ralph is survived by three daughters: Linda McCane and husband John of Torrington and their children Tara and Meagan; Roxanne Kelley and husband William of Burlington and their children Benn and Ryan; and Diane Concannon and husband George of Torrington and their children Michael and Bryan Szabo and Robert Concannon. He also leaves a sister Annie and husband Joseph LaPorte, and brother Joseph Landrette and wife Geneoff, several nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by sisters Phyllis Plawecki and Marie Caselas and brother Frank Landrette. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Peter Church, Torrington, CT at 10:30 on Wednesday, February 26th, with burial following at Hillside Cemetery.
