COLEBROOK >> Thomas Spada, 83, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Hartford Hospital following a short illness. He was the husband of Norma (Godenzi) Spada. Born in Floridia, Sicily, son of the late Santo and Lucy (Romano) Spada, he came to this country when he was 18 years old.
Prior to his retirement, he had worked for the M-H Rhoades Co. for 22 years and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War
. He was a member of the Colebrook Fire Dept., 20 years of which he was Secretary; he was also a member and past president of the Norfolk Curling Club for 40 years. He served for 15 years on the Board of Tax Review for Colebrook and was incredibly active throughout his life. He loved watching his grandsons play baseball, soccer, basketball and track. He enjoyed wood crafts, including sign painting for many events, photographing sunsets, painting scenes on mushrooms and his famous cork trivets. He was an avid camper which took him to all 50 states and several Canadian Provinces. He traveled several times to Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia. Tom also traveled extensively for Curling Club Bonspiels throughout the U.S. and Canada. He was a die hard Boston Red Sox fan along with the NE Patriots, the Celtics and everything outdoors.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Vasquenza and her husband Michael of East Hampton, and Elisa Hurst and her husband Joseph of Norfolk, one sister, Josephine DiMauro of Winsted and two grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Vasquenza. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Spada.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, on Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m.
