SHAW, ARTHUR G. “ARTIE” Torrington—Arthur G. “Artie” Shaw, 85, of Torrington passed away on March 9, 2014. Born on February 13, 1929, in Bantam, CT; the son of George Shaw and Lillian (Schmitenhauser) Shaw. After his military service, Artie returned to his home and resumed his duties at Scoville. In 1952, he married Olga Mubarek, daughter of Joseph and Emily Mubarek, the owners of Mubarek‘s Market. Artie left Scoville to help the family manage the grocery business. In the late 1970’s, Art followed his passion for art and antiques and opened “Arthur Shaw Antiques.” He was also a local celebrity, the wise cracking, tea drinking host of cablevision show “Art and Antiques & Down Memory Lane.” On October 28, 2009, Arthur was recognized in the Washington Congressional Record for co-pioneering the Veteran of the Month program. In addition, Art was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution for his efforts. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Olga, daughter Claudia Bossarelli and her husband Richard of Torrington, and son Brad Shaw and his wife Carol of Southbury. He has two granddaughters, Kristen Bauer (husband Travis) and Taylor Shaw, and a great-grandson, Chase Bauer & great-granddaughter Ava Bauer. Friends may call Wednesday, March 12, 2014, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
