Jane Sabatelli

SABATELLI, JANE ANN Jane Ann Sabatelli, beloved wife of Otto P. Sabatelli of 91 Sunset Lane, Torrington, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, after a prolonged illness. She was born on December 12, 1949, the daughter of John and Mildred (Wallek) Boratko, and was a life time resident of Torrington. She attended public schools in Torrington and graduated high school in 1968. She attended Central Connecticut State College after high school, receiving a BS degree in elementary education in 1972. She went on to receive her masters in education and sixth year certificate from Central in succeeding years. Jane was a popular teacher at Forbes School in Torrington for 35 years, retiring in 2008. She was often remembered for teaching about butterflies and the Civil War. She was a member of both the Torrington Civil War Round Table and the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery unit, participating in numerous parades, exhibitions, and reenactments throughout the state and in New York City. She often portrayed historic women of the period, including Mary Todd Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy, of Torrington; her mother, Mildred Boratko, of Torrington; and a brother, James Boratko and his wife Kathi of Canton, CT., as well as several nieces and nephews. Phalen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There are no calling hours. There will be a private ceremony at Hillside Cemetery Chapel for the immediate family. A memorial service will be held at a future date at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
