Tracy Hass Obituary

HASS, TRACY LYNN RAHN Tracy Lynn Rahn Hass, 41, of Torrington, wife of LTC Edward Gardner Hass, died Dec. 20, 2013, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where she was born on May 29, 1972. Besides her husband, Tracy leaves her four children, Charlotte Marie, 14; Gillian Calverley, 13; Katherine Ruth, 11; and Samuel Gardner, 8, all of Torrington; her father Paul Rahn and his wife Trudy of Fleetville, PA., her mother Ann Calverley Audia and her husband Richard of Alfred, ME; a sister, Kelly Bannister and her husband, Terrance, of Falls Village; her paternal grandmother, Mildred Rahn, of Dalton, PA.; her father-in-law Bruce Hass, of Torrington; her mother-in-law Brigitta (Fuchs) Swiatek and her husband Roger; her brother-in-law and wife, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jennifer Rahn, of Somers, CT. Living up to her name – one meaning of the name Tracy is “warrior” – she bravely fought a long, arduous battle with cancer. Her will to stay with her children enabled her to endure beyond all expectations. Tracy enjoyed gardening, crocheting, working part time at Stop and Shop in Litchfield, and most of all caring for her children and husband in the house she designed. As a military wife, she was involved with the 411 Civil Affairs Battalion’s Family Support Group. She was also an avid fan of several classic films, including “Gone With the Wind” and the “Star Wars” series; and the cult classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” which she attended at every chance. Tracy was known for her unexpected thoughtfulness, as when she personally delivered a tub of iced drinks to a house where her husband and friends were working on a roof. When she excelled at something she playfully bragged about it, such as when, as the only women on a deep sea fishing expedition with her husband, she caught the largest fish. It was rare to see Tracy without a smile, or to hear her talk without cracking a joke, even in the most difficult days of her illness, when the family she centered her life around cared for her tirelessly. Tracy was a generous person and genuine friend who will be missed by all who loved her. Friends may pay respects to the family at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington, between 9 a.m. and noon on Jan. 10 with a memorial service at noon. Private burial services will be at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at any branch of the Torrington Savings Bank to “Team Tracy” for the children’s education or on PayPal to [email protected].
