Avon >> Alice Florence Zecchin, 89, of Apple Rehab, Widow of John P. Zecchin, died on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at St. Francis Hospice Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Alice was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Pawlet, Vermont, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Connors.

A Winsted resident since 1951, she was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. She retired from the Winsted Board of Education where she worked for many years as a school secretary at both the Greenwoods and Pearson Schools. Alice was an active member of the Winsted Emblem Club.
Alice was the loving mother of two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Nancy Zecchin of Bloomfield, and David and Dee Zecchin of Chalfont, Pennsylvania. She had five grandchildren whom she adored, Craig and his fiancée Katie, of Chester, Maryland, Ryan and his wife Mya, of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Darla, Darren and DeAnna, all of Chalfont, Pennsylvania. She leaves a step-great-grandson, Joseph Crouse. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Al Leslie of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Frank, Ed, John and Joe and three sisters, Peg, Ann and Mary.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. A private burial will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.
