Obituary Condolences

Charles Anthony Turina, husband of Alanne Kennedy Turina, died Dec. 29, 2013 at his home in Placentia, California after a long courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Torrington on April 3, 1948, the son of the late Edwin L. and Mary (Mastandola) Turina.
He relocated to southern California in 1983. Charlie was a 1966 graduate of Torrington High School where he was tri-captain of the baseball team and went on to earn an A.S. degree from the Hartford Institute of Accounting. He worked for over 40 years for what would become Smurfit Stone Container Corporation, starting at Charter Oak Container in Torrington. He served 6 years in the Connecticut National Guard and was a former member of the Torrington YMCA, Torrington Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus. Charlie remained active in sports for many years, playing baseball, softball, fast-pitch softball, flag football and basketball with such teams as the American Legion, Dick's Restaurant, Moosehead Tavern, Bake Shop, Sal's Auto Body, North Stars, Celeste Restaurant and Reed Construction. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Anaheim Ducks NHL hockey team and the Anaheim Angels and Boston Red Sox.
Besides his wife, Charlie is survived by his brother, Anthony J. (Tony) Turina and his wife JoAnn of Torrington; two aunts, Anne Maue of Murrieta, California and Florence Gemelli of Torrington; two nieces, Beth Turina Mazza (Joseph) and Caitlin Turina Lee (Jason); and several nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church in Torrington. Memorial contributions may be made to: Torrington Varsity Alumni Club, c/o Andy Pace, 4 Lyme Place, Avon, CT 06001. McAulay & Wallace Mortuary
