WEST HARTLAND >> Heros Hans-Joachim Wegscheider of West Hartland, died on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at the age of 59. Born on Aug. 28, 1954 in Munich, Germany, Heros was the son and oldest child of Marianne and Rudolph Wegscheider. He leaves behind his loving wife, Eva Wegscheider.
Heros grew up in Pine Meadow and graduated from Northwestern Regional #7 in 1972. After high school he took classes in computer science, and spent his young adult years living throughout Northwestern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. In his 30s, he created his own roofing business, Reliable Roofing. His company was well-known in the region, and he continued to work for himself until his passing. In recent years he also worked as a property caretaker at Hartland Pond. Heros was known by friends and family as an adventurous, kind-hearted, and generous man. Always available to fix a leak or offer a ride, he was admired for his selfless service. He was an inspiring figure within his community and a faithful member of his church at Praise Christian Fellowship. His enthusiastic spirit was especially expressed in his love for the outdoors. From cross-country mountaineering trips to ice climbing expeditions, he was constantly active and engaged in life. He always enjoyed a good hike, an afternoon of fishing or an overnight camping trip. His greatest joy was in sharing his energy and curiousity with the children in his life, who adored adventures with their "Papa."
Heros is survived by his wife Eva; his mother, Marianne; his children Christopher, Alisha and Michael; his sisters Angela and Carmen; and his grandchildren Devon, Zoey, Matthew, Destiny, Anthony, and Katie.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital for their incredible service, as well as friends and extended family for their generous support.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Praise Christian Fellowship (52 New Hartford Road. Pleasant Valley, CT 06063) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Heros's honor to the Mount Washington Observatory http://www.mountwashington.org/giving/. Visit an online guestbook at Montano-shea.com.
