Irene (Daigle) Plourde Obituary
SOUTHINGTON >> Irene (Daigle) Plourde, of Southington, formerly of Plainville, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, May 6, 2013. Born in Fort Kent, Maine on May 30, 1940, she was one of thirteen children to the late Emile and Rose (Laferriere) Daigle.
She made her home in Plainville where she raised her two sons, and was a longtime devoted member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Irene retired from Corbin Russwin after 35 years, when she began to enjoy traveling, doing puzzles, and taking trips to the casino. A member of the St. Jean Baptiste Society, she played many bingo and card games there and at the Jensen's clubhouse where she leaves many friends. A loving mother and grandmother, Irene's pride and joy was her family, whom she loved spending time with any chance she could. She will be greatly missed, leaving a legacy of great strength and kindness, and many cherished memories.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Maryellen Plourde of Harwinton Marc and Terri Plourde of Southbury; her four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Carissa, and Kyle; and her companion of many years, Benny Conte, along with his daughter, Tracy and Christopher Sirois, and their daughter Madeline. She also leaves her sisters, Lauretta Voghel and her husband, Ted of South Carolina and Adrienne Daigle and her husband, Lucien of New Britain; her brother, Gilman Daigle of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Laura Lapointe, Juliette Levesque, Theresa Chasse, and Doris Voisine; and her brothers, Wallace, Homer, Paul, Roderick, and Patrick.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. At the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Bailey Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Committal services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
