WINSTED >> Mary Louise (Miller) Thomsen 84, peacefully went to heaven on March 14, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 22, 1929 in Winsted, The daughter of the late Reuben P. and Beatrice (Coe) Miller Sr. of Riverton.
She spent most of her life in Winsted, but also lived in Riverton, Sandisfield, Massachusetts and Dania, Florida. She attended The Gilbert School. Mary married Carl Christen Thomsen Sr. of Winsted, in 1947 and was his devoted wife for 50 years. She was a stay-at-home mom while raising her two sons and daughter, later on she worked with the VNA and in private homes caring for patients. She spent countless selfless years caring for family members and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Mary had an "extraordinarily close" relationship with her family who will cherish her memory in their hearts forever. She enjoyed reading, cooking, family reunions, the Riverton Fair, the beach, camping and also at Junior Lake with her family in Maine. She also enjoyed playing cards with relatives and friends, known as the Club.
She is survived by: son Carl Christen Thomsen Jr. and his wife Sandra of Winsted; son Mark Einar Thomsen and his wife JoAnn of Freeport, Maine; brother John Miller and his wife Marci of Tolland, Massachusetts; sister Beatrice Emmons of Canton; sister Gloria Gabelmann and her late husband Charles of Winsted. She leaves seven grandchildren; Michele Boucher and her husband Dan of Colebrook, Brian Thomsen and his wife April of Winsted, Rebecca Schaer and her husband Jason of Torrington, Erik Thomsen of South Burlington, Vermont, Christen Thomsen and his fiancée Emily Heuer of Avon, Jessie Thomsen of Winsted, Kaj Thomsen and his fiancée Selina Bousquet of Auburn, Massachusetts and five great-grandchildren: CJ and Nicholas Barber of Colebrook, William and Jacob Thomsen of Winsted and Mariah Schaer of Torrington. She was predeceased by her husband Carl Christen Thomsen Sr., her daughter Margaret Ellen (Thomsen) Wood and brother Reuben P. Miller Jr. of Winchester, New Hampshire.
