PINE MEADOW >> Robert C. Raymond, 90, of Pine Meadow, died Feb. 14, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Raymond was born in Claremont, New Hampshire on June 5, 1922. He was the son of the late Adelard P. Raymond and Leona V. Raymond.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant, having earned 13 battle stars. He and his unit received the Distinguished Unit Badge with oak leaf clusters.
Mr. Raymond worked at the Hartford National Bank for 26 years. After his retirement from the bank, he worked for Stop and Shop and Immaculate Conception Church in New Hartford. Mr. Raymond was a master portrait sculptor. He had a passion to teach children art utilizing many different mediums. He also taught sculpture classes at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. He and his wife, Ann, founded the Ann Raymond Center for the Arts in 1984. He was a member of the National Sculpture Society, the Connecticut Sculpture Society, the Elks, and the Connecticut Horticultural Society.
Mr. Raymond is survived by his wife, Ann, his son Hans and his wife and two granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Abbe Wade, and her husband Peter, of Unionville, and several nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends who loved him dearly. We will all miss his positive outlook on life and enduring love for his family.
Calling hours will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, Feb. 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. with a Mass of Christian burial immediately following. Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery at a later date with full military honors. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
