TORRINGTON >> Thomas `Totzie` Gioia, 79, of Torrington, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Gilmore) Gioia who preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2012. Totzie was born on Oct. 11, 1933, in Torrington, son of the late James and Rose Marie (Famigletti) Gioia.
He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Ansonia Copper and Brass as a Machinist until his retirement. An avid Yankee fan, he also enjoyed cooking and gardening.
He is survived his loving family, one son, Alan Gioia and his wife Sheryle of Torrington; one daughter, Sherri Gioia of Torrington; one brother, Anthony Gioia and his wife Berniece of Torrington; three sisters, Marie Jansen of Torrington, Lorraine Nedergaard and her husband Ove of Florida, Eileen Hayes and her husband Thomas of Torrington, one sister-in-law, Janet Gioia, as well as several nieces and nephews and his beloved feline companion, 'Mr. Tux' who gave him countless hours of joy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel Gioia and his wife Eunice, Vincent Gioia, Lawrence Gioia and his wife Norma, and one brother-in-law, Bernard Jansen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.
