AMELIA WALDRON Obituary
WALDRON, AMELIA (KJELLERSTEDT) Amelia (Kjellerstedt) Waldron, 84, of Torrington, died peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Litchfield Woods after a short illness. Millie was born on July 26, 1929, in Bridgeport, CT to the late Herbert and Sarah (Saville) Kjellerstedt. She was the wife of the late Hodges V.R. Waldron, former Mayor of Torrington for 52 years. Millie was a graduate of Torrington High School, class of 1946. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Torrington National Bank and the Torrington YMCA. She worked at City Hall in the Republican Registrar of Voters office as Deputy Registrar/Clerk and later as Republican Registrar for 35 years. She was very active with the Torrington Republican Town Committee and served as party secretary for many years. Millie loved to socialize with friends through the Bridge Club, the 46 Club, and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was a season ticket holder for UCONN Women’s Basketball and a lifelong member of Center Congregational Church. More than anything, she loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons: City Councilman Drake Waldron and his fiancée, Patricia Strawson; and Colton Waldron and his wife, Audrey. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Garrett, Dustin, Rebecca, Chloe and Brice; one sister, Martha Lent of Yarmouth, MA; brothers-in-law Graham and Fletcher Waldron; sisters-in-law Roberta and Sally Waldron and Pam Kjellerstedt; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Kjellerstedt. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23 at 10 AM, Center Congregational Church in Torrington, with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave., Torrington, on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
