VI RUWET Obituary
RUWET, VIOLET (ADAMS) Vi Ruwet, 93, wife of recently deceased Edmund J Ruwet, died June 18, 2014. She was born August 23, 1920 to Edward and Helen ( Guckin) Adams. She was a lifelong resident of Torrington residing for the past 67 years in the Torringford section of town. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Ruwet-Sibley and later in life at the Connecticut Department of Labor office in Torrington. She was a kind and loving person known for remembering family, friends, and neighbors on important occasions with cards, letters, and often a home-made treat. Vi’s hospitality and friendly nature earned her a loving circle of friends. Ed and Violet were married in 1941 and had five children. She was a faithful parishioner of Saint Francis Church and a member of Torringford Grange, Torringford Fellowship and The Council of Catholic Women. Vi loved to read and watch old movies, but more than anything else, she loved vacationing with her family and friends. Ed and Vi vacationed extensively throughout the United States and abroad but always found Cape Cod to be their favorite spot and visited there each summer since 1940. Vi is survived by five children: Carol Barron and husband Thomas of Torrington, Susan Sullivan and husband Ron of Hermitage TN., Elaine Salius and husband Michael of Torrington, David Ruwet and wife Nell of Torrington, and Gail Svendsen and husband Cai of Lithia, FL. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Vi is predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Adams Leonard. She also leaves many dear friends, neighbors, and loving caregivers. A Mass celebrating Vi’s life will be held Tuesday, June 24th at 10:30 at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St, Torrington. There are no calling hours. A reception for family and friends will follow at Fairview Farms Golf Club, 300 Hill RD, Harwinton. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Violet Ruwet can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago IL 60611-3201 or Saint Francis Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, CT 06790.
