BARBARA L. HAYES Obituary
HAYES, BARBARA L. Barbara L Hayes, 74, of Torrington, CT passed away Wednesday, August 20th, at Valerie Manor after a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was the wife of the late Hurlburt C. Hayes who died in 1992. Barbara was born in Torrington, CT on June 12, 1940, a daughter of the late Mildred (Arthur) and Harry Nuhn. She Worked at Waring Products and Executive Greetings for many years until her retirement. In her younger years she was athletic and enjoyed spending time outdoors biking, swimming, sliding and skating with her children. She also spent many years traveling to Cajun music festivals with her husband and later with her companion David Caine. She loved the music and dancing and being with her friends. But her greatest passion was devoting her time and energy to her grandchildren and taking them on many adventures from the mountains to the sea. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Danielle. When her nest was finally empty of children and grandchildren, she filled it with her 10 beloved cats and took such good care of them all for many years. Mom will always be remembered for the fabulous holiday parties she hosted, her marathon shopping excursions to find the “perfect gifts”, the stone retaining wall that she built herself, her boundless energy and how hard she worked at everything she did. She was an extraordinary woman who we were very proud of and who will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Emeritus and Valerie Manor for the care that they provided as well as the support to her family. She leaves children: Tammey (Bruce) Moore, Randy (Jayne) Hayes, Christopher (Winsome) Hayes, Wendy Snyder Grandchildren: Danielle & Ryan Snyder, Emily Hayes, Brandon Moore, Mishele Moher, Troy & Dylan Hayes, brother Gary ( Mary) Nuhn. Great-grandchildren: Mikayla & Tyler Moher, Alex Toper. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday Aug. 23 at 10 AM at Center Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. www.phalenfuneral.com
