Loretta Funk Obituary

WINSTED - Loretta M. Funk, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Loretta died peacefully with her family at her side. Throughout the course of her disease, she never gave up hope and never gave into being sick. She faced each day with grace and fortitude and most of the time with a sense of humor.
Loretta was born in Winsted to Margaret Flotat and the late Edward J. Flotat. She attended local schools. She began working at Son Chief Electronics as an inspector. After the birth of her daughter, she worked for a number of years as a playground aide at St. Anthony School. It was a job she truly enjoyed. She worked for a period of time as a cafeteria worker in the Winsted Public schools. Loretta was later employed by Waring Products, Hudson Magnetic and finally, Sterling Sintered Technologies, from which she retired. Loretta was an avid bowler and softball player well into her 40's. She earned many awards. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and an active volunteer for St. Joseph Church and St. Anthony School until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, traveling, shopping, her flower garden, Christmas and Easter (which she loved and always looked forward to). Loretta loved to cook and bake; her family will miss her homemade pizzas! She loved rooting for the UCONN Huskies and the Boston Red Sox. Loretta was always keen to help out, often putting the needs of others before her own. She was a very giving person. She always said, "Do it the right way, or don't bother"! Those who knew her will miss her wit and sense of humor.
In addition to her mother Margaret, Loretta leaves behind her husband of fifty-four years, Adelbert E. Funk and her daughter Theresa Funk and many dear friends. Loretta was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Flotat.
Del and Theresa would like to thank all of their friends, Dr.'s Sczcerpanski and McHugh and their staff, Sr. Lowenthal and staff, the CHH 5th floor nursing staff, Dr. Dennis and Fr. Paul and all of their parish family, especially all of their seat mates at the 4 p.m. Mass. Del and Theresa would like to add; "Wheezy" we miss you and we love you!
Per Loretta's request there will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph new Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to St. Anthony School. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
