TORRINGTON >> Theresa (Brooks) Kelly, wife of D. Robert Kelly of Torrington, passed away on Monday Jan. 7, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 28, 1925 in Fairfield, Maine, daughter of Lillian Willette and Leon Brooks.
Theresa was a registered nurse, trained at Sisters Hospital in Waterville, Maine where she served as night supervisor. She subsequently served as charge nurse at Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor, Maine. The majority of her career was spent at Oliver Wolcott Technical School in Torrington where she was hired as the school's first nurse and initiated and organized health and wellness programs for tech students and staff. She was employed by the State of CT for 25 years before retiring in 1986.
Theresa and Bob were married in June of 1949, beginning their 63 year journey together by honeymooning at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. They traveled to New York City where Bob pursued his graduate degree, finally settling in Torrington in 1952. Theresa served as president of the St. Francis of Assisi School PTA and was an avid golfer with the Women's League at Eastlawn Country Club where she continued to golf into her late seventies. She traveled often with family and friends including trips to Ireland and Bermuda and enjoyed her winters in Englewood, Florida for 20 years, most recently in the Florida Keys.
Theresa leaves her daughter Terry Lynn Kelly and Ted Collins of Marathon, FL and her son Gregg and his wife Debbie of New Hartford. In addition she leaves seven grandchildren, Blake (Flanagan) Maroon and her husband AJ, Brock, Connery, and Kellyn Flanagan, and Cailyn (Kelly) Paradise and her husband Dan, Brenna Kelly-Phelps and her husband Ryan, and Ryan Kelly. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Trey, Frankie, Ramona, Estelle and Ella and Eli.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Theresa's memory to:
