WINSTED >> John F. Arcelaschi, Sr. 76, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Nancy (Fines) Arcelaschi. Born in Winsted, Nov. 21, 1936, son of the late Angelo J. and Helen (Bowen) Arcelaschi, he had lived here all of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he had worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles for 13 years and retired as the Police Chief of the Winsted Police Dept. after 27 years of service. He was a graduate of The Gilbert School, class of 1955 and received his Associates Degree from the University of Hartford. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Winsted Kiwanis Club where he served as president several times, Past President of the CT Chiefs of Police Association in 1982-83, was a former Mayor and Selectman for the Town of Winchester and had been a coach for midget football in Winsted.
In addition to his loving wife of 51 years, he is survived by three sons, John F. Arcelaschi, Jr. and his wife Nancy, Mark Arcelaschi and his wife Catherine, and Todd Arcelaschi all of Winsted; a brother, Richard Archelaschi and his wife Dolores of Torrington; a sister, Marge Ransford of Granby, five grandchildren, Justin, Johnny, Kaylah, Jaden, Kimberly and Kelley and Danny Mountzoures.
Funeral services will be held on Feb. 12, 10:30 a.m. from the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Feb. 11, 5 to 8 p.m.
