HARWINTON >> Mary J. (Hackett) Furlan, 96, of Harwinton, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Torrington Health and Rehabilitation. She was the beloved wife of the late Egilio `Ted` Furlan. Mrs. Furlan was born on June 10, 1916, in Torrington, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Gearin) Hackett.

She was employed by the Torrington Company until her retirement in 1990. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where she was a member of the Women`s Club, and a member of the Sundowner's Senior Center in Harwinton.
Mary loved to knit outfits for newborns, and ski caps for the needy. She made quilts for every member of her family, and she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, Irish Soda Bread, and Whiskey Cakes.
She is survived by one son, Eugene Palazzini and his wife Evelyn of Harwinton; one step-daughter, Faith Poliquin of Torrington; one sister, Leona Surdam of Burrville; two granddaughters, Rebecca Williams and Julia Marchetti, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Daniel and William Hackett and two sisters, Angeline Killiany and Honnour Ristau.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 22, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
