TORRINGTON >> Richard T McLeod, 83, of Torrington, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Bette (Miller) McLeod. Richard was born in Torrington, on Nov. 9, 1929, a son of the late Marguerite (Brixus) and Thomas McLeod. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War.

He was employed by SNET for 42 years before his retirement. He was a lifelong communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, serving in various positions. He was a Founder and Life Member of Torringford Volunteer Fire Dept. and served as Chief for 12 years. Active with Torrington Republican Town Committee, he served on The Board of Safety for 12 years and Zoning Board of Appeals for two years. He was a member of Sphinx Shriners and was Past Worshipful Master of Seneca Lodge, a former Demolay Leader and Scout Leader. He was a member of Torrington Elks Lodge and was Elk of the Year in 1997, and a member of The Marine Corp Second Division Association.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Glenn McLeod and wife Kathie and Barry McLeod, all of Torrington and Gary McLeod of Washington DC, and a daughter Laurie Weber and husband Dan of Wallingford, Peensylvania. He also leaves grandchildren Amy Calabrese and husband Tony, Sara McLeod and fiance Matt Fador, Kari, Kristin, and Daniel McLeod, and Elise and Bradford Weber, and Michael McLeod and great-grandchildren Alexa and Ava Calabrese and Stella Plavcan. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Hohensee.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Prospect St., Torrington, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the Church Hall from 10 a.m.
