TORRINGTON >> Sadie Theresa Theeb, 96, of Torrington, CT, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Valerie Manor in Torrington.
Ms. Theeb was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Bath, ME, daughter of the late James and Mary (Ruffa) Theeb. In her younger years, Sadie was a Nanny for families in New York, and came home only on weekends. She later worked at Jacob`s Store, and eventually owned and operated the Northside Market on the Winsted Road for over 30 years before her retirement in 1984. In 1991, at 74 years of age, she began working in the deli at the new Stop & Shop in Torrington. She was a CCD teacher at St. Maron Church as well as a member of the North End Community Association, Lebanon American Society, Council of Catholic Women, St. Maron Women`s Club, and the Columbiettes. She enjoyed attending Our Lady of Calverly Retreats, and was a communicant of St. Maron Church in Torrington where she dedicated an abundant amount of time to the church and all of the church activities. She was a wonderful cook, her specialty being Lebanese food, and always had a cake in the oven for Bingo. She was a caring and loving sister and aunt to her whole family and held a special place in their hearts. She was happiest when she was caring for and doing for others. Sadie touched many lives, both young and old, during her amazing 96 years, and was an inspiration to all who met her.
She is survived by one sister, Anna Lavenberg and her husband Lawrence of Columbia, PA; a sister-in-law, Marian Theeb of Torrington, CT; sixteen nieces and nephews, thirty great nieces and nephews, as well as many great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Maurice, Philip and George, and two sisters, Mary and Angelina.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, with the cortege leaving at 9:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South St., Litchfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
