Obituary Condolences

MALONEY, DERIK Derik Maloney, 65 of Burlington, CT passed away suddenly at home along side his two son’s Kevin (25) and Spencer (17). He was the admired and loving husband of Susan who he was with for over 35 years. Derik was the son of Grace and Francis, and the younger brother of Brian and Dennis. He was the best a father could be to his sons. Spending time with his family were his most treasured moments, especially when the family went on vacations to the beach together and hung out at Grandma Cookie’s pool with the extended family, or just building a fire at home and watching a movie. He played and loved basketball in high school, playing for Gilbert, and for Utica College. He passed his passion for basketball to his sons who he loved coaching. His most exciting moments would be when he was along side his family and friends watching his son play as point guard for Lewis Mills. He would always be one of the loudest ones cheering, attending every game. Derik educated his sons to be not only diligent students in school but in everything they did through their lives. He would always help others out before himself. Derik was a licensed surveyor engineer for 40 years and the past 20 years he worked for Hodge Associates. He had his Real Estate Broker license since 1973. Derik was a member of the Lions Club for 20 years and enjoyed participating in all events with his fellow Burlington Lions. In addition to his wife, sons and brothers, he is survived by his father-in-law, Leon Gomlinski and mother-in-law Mary Carnevalini. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Derik Maloney Family Fund c/o Farmington Bank, 32 Main St., Farmington 06032.
