“And no matter what anybody says about grief and about time healing all wounds, the truth is, there are certain sorrows that never fade away until the heart stops beating and the last breath is taken.”

I didn't know Mike well, but you didn't have to know him well to recognize that he was passionate about serving mankind. His service, which went well beyond just his time in the military, defined his life and served as an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Rest in peace, brother.

You touched so many lives and you were an amazing friend to so many people!! No matter who or what it was you would do anything to help a friend out. You had so much love to give and you were always giving it out and I am blessed to say that I got to receive some of it. I'll miss your hugs that would always brighten my day but I will remember you forever and ever and I can't wait to see you again and get one of those famous Mike hugs. Thank you for always being there for me! I will never forget you. I love you bro!!

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Michael Thomas Mason our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Michael. And to Michael it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedoms while serving in the U.S. Army. Michael, you served with honor and distinction; we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Michael's family and loved ones.

So sad to hear of Michael's passing. Even though it's been years since I have seen your family I have found memories when we were young playing together. May your family be blessed with peace.
