Smith, Michael Lee  
Michael Lee Smith, age 64, passed away at his home in Walterville on April 27th, 2016. Michael was born on December 22, 1951 in Eugene, OR to Albert and Wanita Smith. He grew up and went to school in Pleasant Hill, OR. On July 16, 1971 he married his best friend and surviving wife Lauri (Partridge), of Walterville. Most of his working career was spent as a Shipping Supervisor for Coast to Coast in Springfield, OR. Michael was an avid fisherman, enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, and reading. He contributed over 20 years as a member and leader with 4-H. One of his greatest joys was being involved in the day to day activities of his grandchildren. Michael was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend to many. He loved to laugh, and took on the many challenges that he faced with determination. He never gave up his fight, and has been an inspiration to all who loved him. Michael will be dearly missed by his surviving wife Lauri, daughter Megan (Ryan) Ivey, son Jason (Nicolette) Smith, son Troy (Amber) Smith, six grandchildren, and many close family members and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 7th at 2:00pm at the Walterville Community Hall. 39259 Camp Creek Rd. Walterville, OR. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael's honor to the McKenzie Fire Department.

Saul, Robert  
Robert Anthony Saul 1918 - 2016 Robert Anthony Saul died April 21, 2016 at the age of 97. He was born July 21, 1918 to Phillip and Lena (McBee) Saul in Springfield, OR. Other than his time in the US Army Air Force with the 536th Bomb Squadron serving in England during WWII, Robert lived in Springfield all of his life. Robert worked for 36 years as a sawyer at Rosboro's first sawmill in Springfield. A descendant of countless generations of farmers and Oregon Trail pioneers of 1852, farming was his first love. He always grew a large garden and had just planted his tomatoes before he died. He also enjoyed reading and travel. Robert is survived by his children Susan Saul of Vancouver, WA, Roberta Powell of Beaverton, Dan Saul of Olympia, WA, Laura Saul of Portland, and Jane Saul of Springfield; also his grandchildren Kirsten Saul of Chicago, IL, Adam Saul of Seattle, WA, and Dominic and Catherine Powell of Beaverton. Robert also is survived by his brother Donald Saul of Hagerman, ID. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann (Cartier) Saul, his son, John Saul, his parents, and his brother, Kenneth Saul. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield. Disposition will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
